I got my start in the late '70's, working in my father's refinishing shop.
At the same time I studied furniture and cabinet making at
a local tech school, and a few years later started teaching
introductory furniture making and woodshop tool maintenance at the same
school. I continued teaching these as well as
the occasional wood carving class until 1992, when a third child
was born to my wife and me, complicating life
sufficiently that teaching had to take a back seat to fatherhood.
I began making furniture while still working with my dad, and when he retired in 1984,
I went out on my own, starting Heartland Furniture.
